JOB SUMMARY

The Product Manager is responsible for coordinating with other departments such as Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Operations for new product releases and existing product revisions.  This role will manage and lead assigned cross-functional product development projects and own the scheduling portion of these projects as well.  Strong communication and document management are a critical part of this role.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Identify and prioritize new product opportunities including competitive analysis, price points, and estimated annual volume.  Develop simple business cases.
  • Acquire and maintain a high level of product knowledge for Cargo Van Interiors, Racks, and Truck Accessories.
  • Develop project plan tracking mechanisms and ensure consistent communication of project status to Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Operations.
  • Obtains product market share by working with sales to develop product sales strategies.
  • Brings new products to market by analyzing proposed product requirements and product development programs; preparing return-on-investment analyses; establishing time schedules with engineering, sales, marketing, and manufacturing.
  • Determines product pricing by utilizing market research data; reviewing production and sales costs; anticipating volume; costing special and customized orders.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; attending industry related trade shows.
  • Maintain communication with key customers and sales team to identify new product needs and existing product performance needs. 
  • Develop a process document to ensure new products and product updates are circulated to sales, marketing and other departments as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s Degree in Technical Field, such as Engineering Technology, Product Design, other Science, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Sales, Operations, or Engineering/Product Design role
  • Ability to influence and lead a cross functional team where the team members are not direct reports.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Access, Project and Power Point.

PREFERRED

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or equivalent appropriate technical BS degree.
  • Project Management training or certificate program.
  • Previous experience with aftermarket automotive products

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Requires working on hard floor – standing, sitting, laying, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting and stooping.
  • The ability to pass the annual respiratory fit testing and spirometry (medical evaluation) testing. 
  • Requires wearing required personal protective equipment (ie., respiratory protection) and following all applicable policies related to OSHA requirements.
